Electric Car Grants Reintroduced

Electric Car Grants Reintroduced

Good news for those considering purchasing an electric car. The Department for Transport (DfT) have reintroduced grants for electric cars in 2025 after scrapping them in 2022.

Grants could be up to £3,750. This is for electric vehicles priced under £37,000. Many new electric cars cost less that £30,000, so most are eligible for the grant.

There will be specific bands for this scheme. Grants will be received based on how ‘green’ vehicles are. The ‘greenest’ cars will be in band one which is the full grant of £3,750. For the second band customers will receive £1,500 to purchase their vehicle.

The government still intends to ban the sale of new fully petrol or diesel vehicles by 2030. The grant inadvertently pushes this ban and is being put in place to encourage customers to buy electric vehicles.

Customers can apply for grants commencing the 16th of July 2025.
