Tesla's Fully Self-Driving Vehicles Hit UK Roads
Tesla’s fully self-driving car hits UK roads.
Tesla has tested self-driving vehicles on UK roads for the first time. The self-driving
cars were tested in London on major public roads and Swindon’s magic round-a-
bout.
Videos were released from Tesla that showed an individual in the driver’s seat of an
autonomous vehicle. In the video, the individual’s hands were not touching the
wheel, and the car seemed to perform well.
Although the test results were positive, small tests can’t account for other drivers not
following the road rules. The question going forward is: are these self-driving
vehicles suitable to individuals’ everyday life and not just small tests on the road?
This is where further road testing will be required. However, this will need to be in
controlled environments initially, to avoid accidents on public roads.
Lillian Greenwood, the Labour parties’ Future of Roads Minister said: “Self-driving
vehicles are one of the most exciting opportunities to improve transport for so many
people, especially those in rural areas or unable to drive.
We want to work with passengers and industry to make this new form of transport
safe and accessible, as we take our next steps towards adoption.
This technology doesn’t just have the potential to improve transport for millions of
people. It will help stimulate innovation, create thousands of jobs, and drive
investment to put more money in people’s pockets – all part of delivering our Plan for
Change.”
She is in overall approval of the usage of self-driving cars for the future of driving as
they’ll help those who can’t drive and improve lots of lives.
So, what do you think? Can you see self-driving vehicles become the norm in the
future? Or do you prefer being in control of the wheel?
